ITINERARY – Egypt, Call of the Eternal -
May 13 - 27, 2011
- Day One: May 13 Depart from home on the airline of your choice.
- Day Two: May 14 Arrive in Cairo for late afternoon check-in at the Five-Star Meridian Hotel across from the Giza Plateau. Our group meets for orientation.
- Day Three: May 15 Dawn meditation and ceremony between the paws of the Sphinx. Walk the Giza Plateau with Emil our Egyptologist. In the afternoon we gather for our opening circle followed by dinner. Stay overnight at the Meridian Hotel.
- Day Four: May 16 Visit the Cairo Museum and the Kahn El Khalili bazaar, lunch at the famous Mafouz restaurant named after writer Naguib Mafouz winner of the Nobel Prize for literature. That evening we board our overnight sleeper train to Upper Egypt, Aswan.
- Day Five: May 17 Morning arrival in Aswan, a beautiful city on the Nile where we board The Afandina, our private boat for the next eight days. After getting settled into our cabins we sail by Felucca to Sehel, a sacred island dedicated to Anuket,a fertility deity, where we will honor her as the personification of the Nile. Free evening to shop at the Aswan market.
- Day Six: May 18 Early morning private visit to the stunning Temple of Isis on the island of Philae. Together we walk the stones of the temple grounds and proceed into the sanctuary for ceremony to honor the Goddess. Free evening and overnight in Aswan.
- Day Seven: May 19 Early morning 5 hour cruise to the Temple of Kom Ombo dedicated to the Gods Sobek and Horus who represent our instinctual and divine natures. At noon we begin our slow cruise to the town of Edfu. That evening we have a private visit to the magnificent Temple of Edfu dedicated to the Falcon God Horus. Stay overnight in Edfu.
- Day Eight: May 20 Sail to Esna, an old city along the Nile where Emil will regale us with his stories as we walk though the town. Emil who grew up in Upper Egypt seems to know everyone and has a way of finding the most interesting people for us to meet. Overnight in Esna.
- Day Nine: May 21 Morning sail to Luxor. As this usually takes 10 or so hours, there is much luxurious time to rest or sit on the deck and view life along the banks of the Nile. We’ll watch men fish the river, children playing with their animals, and people working in the verdant fields living life much as they did thousands of years ago. We arrive in Luxor in the evening where you will have a chance to visit the town or the old market. Stay overnight in Luxor.
- Day Ten: May 22 Early morning bus to Dendarah, the Temple of Hathor and then on to Abydos, the Temple of Seti I. dedicated to the God Osiris. Meditation and ceremony. Stay overnight in Luxor.
- Day Eleven: May 23 Morning visit to the West Bank and the Valley of the Kings, the Funerary Temple at Medinet Habu dedicated to Ramses III., then on to the Valley of the Queens and to the Temple Hatchepsut. Stay overnight in Luxor.
- Day Twelve: May 24 We cross the Nile for an early morning visit to Karnak, the largest temple complex in the world. Visit the Temple belonging to the creator God Ptah, visit the Goddess Sekhmet, the only statue still standing in her original site. Free afternoon, then an evening visit to the exquisite Temple of Luxor.
- Day Thirteen: May 25 We leave the Afandina for a morning flight back to Cairo and check in at the Mena House Oberoi. Late afternoon private visit and meditation at Sakkarra, one of the oldest step pyramids in existence.
- Day Fourteen: May 26 Private two-hour meditation in the Kings Chamber of the Great Pyramid of Giza. Evening farewell dinner.
- Day Fifteen: May 27 Morning flight home.
ITINERARY – Optional Excursion
Path of the Ancestors to Mount Sinai/Red Sea
May 27 – June 2, 2011 – Minimum 6 people
- Day One: May 27 After breakfast we board a bus for our drive through the beautiful mountains of the Sinai Desert, passing the Suez Canal. We stop for a visit with Bedouin women famous for their exquisite embroidery, then on to St. Catherine’s home of one of the oldest monasteries situated at the foot of Mount Sinai. We check into the St. Catherine’s Hotel and enjoy dinner together.
- Day Two: May 28 Meditation, breakfast at the hotel, then visit the ancient St. Catherine’s Monastery which houses the Burning Bush. Meditation at the Sacred Well. Optional afternoon camel ride. Dinner at the hotel.
- Day Three: May 29 Meditation , then breakfast. Work with a Bedouin Healer. In the afternoon we walk the path of the ancestors up the holy mountain for sunset meditation. Camels are also available for part of the journey if you wish. This is an extraordinary experience that words cannot describe. Dinner at the hotel.
- Day Four: May 30 Meditation, breakfast. Drive to the lovely Village of Nuweiba on the Red Sea for swimming, snorkeling, rest and relaxation. Dinner at the hotel.
- Day Five: May 31 Meditation, breakfast and free time. Dinner at the hotel. Closing ceremony.
- Day Six: June 1 Meditation, breakfast, then we drive back to Cairo. Stay overnight in Cairo.
- Day Seven: June 2 Early morning breakfast. Leave for home.
